An Audience With Martin Gilbert: ‘I wanted to go before being asked’

Martin Gilbert is in a reflective mood as he heads into his final few weeks in the boardroom of the asset manager he helped build from scratch more than 35 years ago.

The 65-year-old is due to leave his role as Standard Life Aberdeen vice-chair in September, a departure which will bring the curtain down on the career of one of the City’s most recognisable figures.
