The Bank of England has defended one of its sponsorship schemes that provides funding and paid internship opportunities to Black students, which an ex-Reform UK MP has accused of being racist.

Rupert Lowe, the independent MP for Great Yarmouth, called the UK central bank a “disgrace” for offering the Black Future Leaders Sponsorship Programme, which he said smacks of “vile, anti-white racism”.
