Citigroup traders deliver best third quarter ever as volatility lingers

Wall Street bank’s dealmaking fees also rise 17% as clients regain confidence

Citigroup’s traders posted their best third quarter ever, as Wall Street banks capitalised on lingering market volatility and renewed enthusiasm for dealmaking.

Citi’s markets business generated a record $5.6bn in revenue during the three months through September, up 15% from a year earlier. The haul beat analysts’ estimates of $5bn.
