Cravath’s London raid on Shearman shows law’s private equity revolution

Alongside another US titan, Shearman & Sterling, Cravath is trying to find a way to adapt to a changing legal landscape

Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Shearman & Sterling are two of New York corporate law's stalwarts, with roots stretching back to 1819 and 1873 respectively.

However, both firms have been destabilised in recent years by the success of peers such as Kirkland & Ellis and Latham & Watkins, which have thrived in the post-financial crisis private credit boom.
