House of Fraser opts for cash-balance scheme

House of Fraser, the retail chain, has become one of the first UK companies to replace its defined benefit scheme with a cash-balance fund.

The investment product, also known as shared-risk plans, are popular in the US but are relatively unknown relatives of the more conventional hybrid pension plan in the UK.
