HSBC dealmakers swooped on by rivals after investment bank overhaul 

Top rainmakers at the UK lender are landing at investment banks across the City

HSBC’s move to cut dealmakers in February as it shuttered some investment banking functions came at a difficult time. 

A stuttering start to what was expected to be a bumper 2025 was then hampered by US president Donald Trump’s so-called Liberation Day in April, which forced deals to be iced. Banks shifted from a need to hire senior dealmakers to sharpening the axe.
