When a senior staffer at a major bank was expecting a child in 2020, he planned to take two months off. That plan didn’t happen — he was made redundant four days after his paternity leave started.

“I was given the very strong impression that my boss and major stakeholders felt that by taking paternity leave, I wasn’t showing commitment to the job. I’d be wary of taking it again,” he said.
