Jefferies sets sights on Europe’s top five after aggressive hiring spree

The US investment bank has spent years building out its team in Europe. Now it wants to move up the league tables

Over the past five years, Jefferies has hired more than 50 managing directors in Europe, poaching top dealmakers as many of its rivals made deep cuts. 

As investment banks have struggled against a two-year slump in deals, Jefferies has taken on talent from the likes of Barclays, Credit Suisse and Citigroup, often opportunistically hiring entire teams of dealmakers to build out its business.
