Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has used his debut Mansion House speech to tell those questioning London's status as a global hub for finance to stop peddling a "declinist narrative" about the City.

"Recent challenges have led some to lose hope and even peddle a declinist narrative," Hunt told the 10 July gathering of City leaders. "They are profoundly wrong."
