When KKR holds an anniversary party next month to celebrate 25 years of investing in Europe, it will also be bidding a fond farewell to the man who helped make it all possible.

Johannes Huth, the softly-spoken German dealmaker who has spearheaded the US buyout giant’s expansion on the continent, is stepping down as chair of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
