The appointment of a new chair of the Financial Conduct Authority could set up some "uncomfortable" discussions among the regulator's top brass, according to City insiders.

The Treasury announced on 8 July that the chief executive of the Securities and Futures Commission, Hong Kong's regulator, Ashley Alder, would be taking over as the UK watchdog's chair in January.
