UK borrowing nears £2.1tn in October

UK’s total debt pile now stands at £2.09tn as of the end of October, at a ratio of 100.8% of GDP, which is the highest since the early 1960s

The UK government’s national debt pile almost hit £2.1tn in October, as monthly borrowing reached its sixth-highest level since records began in 1993.

Monthly net borrowing reached £22.3bn last month, according to data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on 20 November. This was compared to £35.4bn in September, but still represented the highest October borrowing and sixth-highest of any month on record.
