Why 2026 could be private markets’ year of regulatory reckoning

With the Bank of England publishing details of its stress tests of the sector, it could be the year that watchdogs finally catch up with a booming market

Back in the early 2000s, a top City lawyer was persuaded to buy into private markets by their then-investment manager.

The lawyer went on to greater things, becoming one of the most senior regulators in the City. Their investments went in the opposite direction.
